Parks and Green space
Hamiota enjoys a variety of unique and well-maintained green space areas for the enjoyment of area residents and local tourists.
Hamiota Millennium Road Side Park
Hamiota Millennium Committee adopted this project as the community "Legacy for the Future". Transforming an unsightly empty parcel of land located in the centre of the community along Highway 21 provides the community with an enhanced image for residents and travelers alike. This former brown field site now features a central raised floral bed, water feature, memorial rose bed, winding walking path, variety of trees and shrubs and shade arbour. Benches and a picnic table beckon for park visitors to rest and enjoy the park.
Hamiota Trails Pitlochery and Chumah Trails
are located upon the abandoned railway line providing for excellent recreational use in all seasons. Hikers relax upon the bench located on the east side of Hamiota on Pitlochery trail and enjoy the sounds of spring as waterfowl return to nest in the spring. Winter season sees the return of groomed tails along the Chumah Trail located on the west side of the Town. The trails were initially developed through the efforts of the Hamiota Youth Corps and local volunteers and were simply called Hamiota Rails to Trails until their renaming in 2004 to reflect local history of settlement development.
Hamiota Communities in Bloom Committee started in the 1999 season on a trial basis, the "Communities in Bloom" concept has been embraced by volunteers who are interested in beautification of the community not only for the present, but into the future. Plans for 2003 included the planting of additional trees within the community, Planter Day and a Special Judges Reception Day. Today, the Hamiota Communities in Bloom continues to play an important role in identifying suitable community projects and working towards continued overall community improvements.
Hamiota Municipal Park
is ideally located on the north west corner of the Hamiota. This area underwent approximately 3 Million dollars of development in the early to mid 1990’s giving the community a comprehensive and broad green space area for community activities and events. A modern campground is located adjacent to the Hamiota Aquatic Centre, Lions Playground, Nine hole grass green Golf Course with newly constructed Club house, Agricultural buildings, Hamiota & District Sports Complex, Beach Volleyball court, soccer field, ball diamonds and equestrian arena.
Campground amenities include:
- 12 Full Service Sites water, hydro and sewer hook up. Suitable for larger camping units, six sites allow for "pull through service>
- 16 Serviced Sites water and hydro service
All 28 sites are equipped with fire pits and picnic tables. Firewood is included with the daily rates. Group camping can be arranged within the park for special reunions, gatherings or similar functions.
Modern accessible washroom and shower facilities are conveniently located within the campground and in close proximity to the Lions playground.
Over 400 trees were planted within the Hamiota Municipal Park in the late 1990’s due in part to the Manitoba Hydro Forest Enhancement Program. A well planned maintenance program has resulted in a healthy growth. Several feature floral beds are located within the park as well.
Parks and Green space projects signal a community with a strong collective value for parks and recreation.
"Quality of life" is important to individuals and they are willing to commit both time and money towards maintaining and improving the opportunities.
